General

  • KeyLemon should support any USB camera (integrated or external) compatible with Windows Media Foundation. We have successfully tested KeyLemon with most of the recent webcams.

    If you encounter a compatibility issue with a webcam, please report it with a detailed description of the webcam.


  • No picture of you is uploaded to the internet. Only one profile is made and it is stored locally on your computer, accessible by the KeyLemon Desktop Application only. This model is based on the statistics of your facial features and is saved in a binary format which cannot be read by third parties.

    In order to uninstall the application properly on Mac, you have to use the "Uninstall" button from within he application. Have a look at the topic "How do I uninstall KeyLemon correctly?" below.

    Yes, but what if I have already removed KeyLemon.app ?

    If you have already removed KeyLemon.app, the easiest way to properly uninstall is to reinstall the app and use the uninstall button as described above.


  • The main reason why KeyLemon cannot be available in Mac App Store is that the KeyLemon installation requires administrator privileges and this is not allowed by Apple. Indeed, because KeyLemon operates very close to the system, administrator rights are required (only during installation) to install files at the right place.

    We would love to sell KeyLemon software in the Mac App Store, but KeyLemon does not fulfil the drastic Mac App Store requirements. These requirements can be seen here for those with an appropriate developer account, here for the others.


  • In order to uninstall KeyLemon properly, use the "Uninstall KeyLemon" button located in the KeyLemon application. Simply removing the application (/Applications/KeyLemon.app) will not uninstall KeyLemon entirely.

    In order to uninstall properly KeyLemon, please follow these steps:

    1. Open the "About" tab of KeyLemon application (/Applications/KeyLemon.app) and click on the uninstall button.
    2. A dialog box asking you to confirm the uninstallation will appear. Press "Yes" to continue the uninstallation process.
    3. You will be asked to enter your credentials because the application needs to uninstall the plugin which performs the face recognition to unlock your session.
    4. If the uninstallation process succeeds, the wizard will display the following page:
    5. At this point, the application is properly uninstalled and you can remove the application folder from /Applications.

    If you have already removed KeyLemon.app, please install again KeyLemon and follow the steps described above.


  • In order to uninstall KeyLemon properly, you have to use the "Uninstall KeyLemon" button located in the KeyLemon application. Simply removing the application (/Applications/KeyLemon.app) will not uninstall KeyLemon properly. This is clearly explained in the Readme step of the KeyLemon installation.

    In order to uninstall properly KeyLemon, please follow these steps:

    • Open the KeyLemon application (/Applications/KeyLemon.app). Depending on the status of your evaluation period, KeyLemon will either open in the "General" tab or in the "Licenses" tab directly. Both tabs have an "Uninstall" button.
    • Click on the "Uninstall KeyLemon" button. A dialog box will ask you if you really want to uninstall KeyLemon. Click on "Yes". Then you will be required to enter an administrator password.
    • Finally, KeyLemon will notify you that the uninstallation is properly completed and that the Application package (/Applications/KeyLemon.app) can now be removed.
